Authentic, real, bona-fide, true to one’s own personality and spirit – that’s the heart of Dancing Coyote Wines and our founder, Tom McCormack. Born and raised in Rio Vista, a sleepy little town nestled on the Sacramento River, agriculture was in his blood. His ancestors made their way to the Sacramento Delta in the 1800’s from the Isle of Aran in Scotland, via Canada. As a fourth generation California farmer, Tom watched his grandfather and father work the land and knew that would be his destiny as well. But the maverick in him, didn’t settle at just that. His individualist outlook took him along a little different path. Rather than just plant wheat, tomatoes and other row crops, like his great grandfather, grandfather and father before him, he ventured out and planted grapes. And, rather than plant just the typical varietals of the Delta, he researched different ones, traveling the world to see growing conditions and winemaking styles.
Thus was born Dancing Coyote – wines of varietals such as Albarino from Spain, Gruner Veltliner from Austria, Verdelho from Portugal, Cortese and Falanghina from Italy – all planted in Tom’s vineyards in the Clarksburg appellation. His goal – wine that is true to it’s varietal and spirit, yet unconventional and free thinking – not unlike Tom.
